- Almishkat Center for Research
Almishkat is an independent institution devoted to advancing knowledge on contemporary Egypt,
and Arab countries, through research in the social sciences, with emphasis on human
development. Fields of research emphasis include: education/learning and research/development,
employment, governance and welfare (poverty).
- The Applied Research Institute in Jerusalem (ARIJ)
The Applied Research Institute in Jerusalem, actually located in Bethlehem, focuses on environmental protection and sustainable development with the aim of building a comprehensive environmental database for Palestine in areas related to water, agriculture, land, and air. As a bonus, an Eye on Palestine section, introduced in early 1997, has excellent primers on understanding Israeli settlement policy, including the Abu Ghnaim/Har Homa project and a host of others in the Jerusalem area. Incredible maps, photos and aerial photos facilitate understanding.
- Birzeit University Institute of
Law
Birzeit University Institute of Law was established in 1993 in order to
contribute to the evolution of legal structures and the rule of law in Palestine.
The current main tasks of the Institute are: continuing legal education, practical
legal research, a Master of Laws Program and the establishment of a complete and modern
legal information and documentation center. In addition, the Birzeit University Institute of
Law has developed a comprehensive Palestinian law library.
- Cairo Demographic Center (CDC)
The Cairo Demographic Center is a training and research institute established in 1963 by the mutual assistance between the United Nations and the Egyptian Government. In January 1992 the Egyptian Government took full responsibility for the Center. The site provides only listings of on-going and current research. It does not publish abstracts or full texts.
- Centre for Arab Unity Studies (CAUS)
The center carries out research into all aspects of Arab society and Arab unity and publishes also a scholarly monthly journal in Arabic called "Al-Mustaqbal Al-Arabi" (The Arab Future.
- Center for Strategic Studies Research and Documentation (CSSRD)
CSSRD was established in 1990 as an independent Lebanese research center. The research emphasis of CSSRD is on geo-political strategic studies following the end of the Cold War and their impacts on the Middle East and the Islamic world. The site, in Arabic language only, is in Arabic graphics and PDF.
- Center for the Study of the Built Environment (CSBE)
The Center for the Study of the Built Environment (CSBE) is a non-profit, private study and research institution that aims at providing a better understanding of the built environment and of the challenges facing it in Jordan and the region. The built environment is defined in a comprehensive manner to include all physical components of human settlements such as buildings, streets, open spaces, and infrastructure. CSBE is therefore an interdisciplinary center that addresses areas including environmental studies, urban design and planning, conservation, architecture, landscape architecture, and construction technologies.
- Economic Research Forum for the Arab Countries,
Iran & Turkey (ERF)
The Economic Research Forum for the Arab Countries, Iran and Turkey (ERF) was created
in June 1993 to meet the need for closer interaction
between the regional economic research constituency, the decision-making community,
and the interest groups of civil society. ERF's mission is to provide an institutional
mechanism to initiate and fund policy-relevant research, to disseminate the results of
research activity to scholars, policymakers, and the business community, and to function
as a resource base for researchers through its databank and documentation library.
- The Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES)
The Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, an independent nonprofit research institute, was founded in 1992 by members of Egypt's private sector. The Center is dedicated to promoting economic development in Egypt by assisting policy makers and the business community in the process of identifying, developing and implementing policy reform.
- The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR)
The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, founded in 1994 in Abu Dhabi, is an independent research institution dedicated to professional research and educational excellence in the UAE and the Gulf area. ECSSR serves as a focal point for scholarship on political, economic, and social issues pertinent to the UAE, the Gulf, and the Middle East regions through the sponsorship of empirical research and scientific studies conducted by scholars from around the globe. This site carries brief descriptions of ECSSR's publications and research activities. It also offers general information about the United Arab Emirates.
- Institute for Documentation and
Research on Lebanon (IDREL) - Lebanon's Memory.
Idrel is a research and publishing company specialising in Lebanon's public affairs. It publishes the weekly electronic newsletter "ShuFiMaFi", the monthly documentary and
statistical bulletin "Al-Marjaa Cassandre", the "Zakirat Loubnan" yearbook, and the "Lebanese Jurisprudence Index".
- Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information
(IPCRI)
IPCRI was founded in Jerusalem in 1989 as a joint Palestinian-Israeli public policy
think-tank. IPCRI is devoted to developing practical solutions for the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- The Land Research Center (LRC)
The Land Research Center (LRC) was established in Jerusalem in 1986 as a branch of the Arab Studies Society headed by Mr. Faisel Husaini. LRC is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit Palestinian organization whose activities cover areas of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and Gaza Strip. LCR's objectives are to protect the Palestinian land, to safeguard Palestinian agriculture from Israeli violations and to preserve the Palestinian’s basic rights to housing and land ownership. LCR conducts researches and studies on the issues of land, agriculture and make full linkages between Arab Jerusalem and the remaining parts of the occupied Palestinian territories.
- Lebanese Center for Legal and Economic Studies (LCLES)
The Lebanese Center for Legal and Economic Studies offers statistics on current main issues, provides free legal and economic advice for organizations and individuals and publishes online a weekly Editorial endorsed with recent statistics.
- Middle East Research and Studies (MERS)
The Middle East Research and Studies provides services in the field of information technology, documentation, indexing, data automation and research. As a research corporation MERS handles the information related to the Arab world, indexing Arab newspapers and periodicals, organization and reorganization of archives, libraries, and research centers attached to media establishments, government, ministries and companies.
- The Palestine Economic Forum
The Palestine Economic Forum, sponsored by the
Economic Development
Institute of the World Bank seeks to promote prosperity and the peace process by bringing
in the economic dimension on a broad set of issues that are at the cutting edge of
Palestinian economic development.
- Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS)
The Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute, or Ma'had Abhath As-Syasat Al-Iqtisadiyeh Al Filistini (MAS), was founded in May 1994 to engage in applied economic research, and to provide expert analysis of policies and strategies critical to the development of the Palestinian economy.
- The Palestinian Energy & Environment
Research Center (PEC)
The Palestinian Energy & Environment Research Center was established in December 1993
in Jerusalem to prepare studies and proposals about the needs of the Palestinian
community for energy resources, traditional and non-traditional.
- Syrian Economic Society
The Syrian Economic Society has a wide mandate, to promote research on the economy of the Arab region in general and Syria in particular, to participate in the endeavors to establish Arab economic unity, to create a networking platform for Arab economists, to help enhance the study of economics. In its general effort to enhance the economic and social development in Syria, the Society hosts workshops, conferences, and economic Forums. The Society's web site is publishing the Arabic full texts of the studies, with abstracts in English.
