(McGill University) - ICAS supports a variety of internet projects on the Middle East peace process, including the Palestine Refugee Research Net, devoted to the Palestinian refugee issue, the
Palestinian Development
InfoNet, which disseminates information on development assistance and reconstruction in the West Bank and Gaza for use by NGOs, the private sector, policy makers, and
scholarly researchers, and the
Palestinian NGO Support Project, which offers non-governmental organizations a modest opportunity to make information on their aims and activities available via the world-wide web.
European Institute for Research on Mediterranean and Euro-Arab Cooperation - Institut MEDEA (Institut Européen de Recherche sur la Coopération Méditerranéenne et Euro-Arabe). MEDEA is a non profit Belgian association created in July 1995. MEDEA facilitate exchanges of information and ideas between politicians, academics, journalists and concerned NGO's; promotes dependent and objective analysis; communicatesresearch findings to opinion and political decision makers, in particular members of the European Parliament, in order to make a substantial contribution to co-operation, development and stability in the Mediterranean region and in Euro-Arab relations in general.
Institut de Monde Arab (IMA) -
The Institut is a museum and exposition center of Arab civilization managed in Paris by a consortium of Arab and European countries. It presents brief profiles of each Arab League country on the web but the country chronologies need updating.
La Maison de l'Orient Mediterranien, founded in 1975 and now part of CNRS-Universite Lumiere Lyon 2, has an active
research program, including
preparing research guides of the web sites of various Eastern Mediterranean countries under the supervision
of Jean-Frangois Legrain. Palestine is already available on line. [French].
Deutsches Orient-Institut (DOI - Hamburg) - the German Orient Institute was founded in 1960 on the initiative of the Near and Middle East Association. The Institute deals with research, information and documentation on the Near and Middle East (including North Africa) covering all member states of the Arab League, Israel, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
- founded in Germany in 1975, is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit academic institution. The Center encourages the study of Oman's history, social, economic and cultural conditions, compiles bibliographic references on Oman, coordinates research, and maintains a web site aimed at providing up-to-date and correct information on Oman to researchers, travellers, journalists and business people.

The Arava Institute for
Environmental Studies (Kibbutz Ketura) - is a research and teaching center established
in September 1996. The Institute offers a one year program in Environmental Studies
for international students. AIES serves as a regional center for conservation and environmental protection activities, and sponsors a domestic policy research initiative.
Ben-Gurion University - Department of Middle East Studies
- was established in 1994, focusing on the study and research of the Middle East in interdisciplinary methodologies. The Department offers its students a wide-ranging encounter with the region, emphasizing its history and its culture, from the rise of Islam in the Seventh century A.D. to our times.
The Israeli Democracy Institute
(Jerusalem) - a nonpartisan activist think tank, opened its doors in
Jerusalem in 1991 to respond to the need for a restructuring of the Israeli
political system that will enable Israel to meet the challenges of continued
sovereignty and leadership in the years to come.
Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies
(Tel-Aviv University) - aims to advance research on relevant strategic subjects, and to promote public understanding of Israeli national security and Middle Eastern strategic affairs.
Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information
(IPCRI), founded in Jerusalem in 1989, is a joint Palestinian-Israeli public policy
think-tank in the world. IPCRI is devoted to developing practical solutions for the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Perez Center for Peace - the goals of the center are to advance Arab-Israeli cooperation, to help cement Middle East peace, to help dissolve the residues of war, and to initiate academic research and teaching activities in the fields of diplomacy, negotiation and regional development.
The Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace Research - is a multidisciplinary academic framework shared by the faculties of the humanities, social sciences, and law at Tel Aviv University. The purpose of the Center, established in 1992, is to promote systematic research and thinking on issues connected with peacemaking processes and conflict resolution.

trasnsfer and military budgets worldwide.
International Relations and Security Network (ISN) - is an international networking initiative in the fields of international relations and security. Among others, it offers specialized reference services on the Internet. ISN is a Swiss contribution to Partnership for Peace. It is coordinated and developed by the Center for Security Policy and Conflict Research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in cooperation with numerous international partners.
The British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES) - was established in 1973 to encourage and promote the study of the Middle East in the United Kingdom. It brings together teachers, researchers, students, diplomats, journalists and others who deal professionally with the Middle East. BRISMES publishes two publications, The British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies and the BRISMES Newsletter.
The Center of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law (CMEL) - of the School of Oriental and African Studies. The objective of CMEL is to study the various systems of law at work in the Islamic and Middle Eastern world and to provide a platform of interaction between the Middle Eastern and Muslim lawmakers and scholars. CMES operates as a scholarly legal bridge for research and practice at the crossroad of Islam, the Middle East and the West.
The Gulf Center for Strategic Studies (GCSS) - is an independent research organisation, based in London. The Center's research concentrates on events in the Middle East, and in particular the Arabian Gulf States. GCSS publishes the Gulf Report, Bahrain Analysis and more on military issues in the Middle East, regional water issues, economics, investment and many other topics.
The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies - University of Exeter.
The Institute constitutes a multi-disciplinary teaching and research unit within the University of Exeter offering research and programmes in a wide range of areas within the field of Arab and Islamic Studies. Contemporary Arab Studies - studies the social and cultural, economic and political
impacts of advanced communication and information technologies such as the Internet,
direct satellite broadcasting, and the spread of cellular and other telephones
throughout the Arab world in the Middle East. CEPR features analysis of business and economics articles in the New York Times and the Washington Post, the US government's statistics, globalization related publications and news, intellectual property and patent rights etc.
The Center for International Security and Arms Control (CISAC) - part of Stanford University's Institute for International Studies, is a multidisciplinary community dedicated to research and training in issues of international security and arms control. CISAC publishes series of reports and working papers some of which are online. CISAC newsletter, The Galvez House Monitor, published three times a year, is also available online.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) - is a public policy research institution dedicated to policy analysis and impact.
CSIS Middle East Studies Program provides useful online data, especially on military and petroleum developments in the region. Also includes much secondary analysis of the World Bank's World Development Indicators and other publicly available but expensive
resources.
Center for Global Peace - American Univeristy. The Center for Global Peace provides a framework for programs and initiatives that advance the study and understanding of world peace grounded in a search for a just and sustainable world order. The Center's activities focus on the interdependent global system, identifying common interests and working toward common security.
Columbia International
Affairs Online (Columbia University) - designed to be the most comprehensive
source for theory and research in international affairs. It publishes a wide range of
scholarship from 1991 on that includes working papers from university research institutes,
occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, and proceedings
from conferences. The content of CIAO is updated biweekly.
Gulf2000 Project is developped at
the School of International and Public Affairs of Columbia University in New York City.
It is designed to provide information on Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Iraq Research and Documentation Project (IRDP) at Harvard University. IRDP is a database on the government, politics, and civil society of modern Iraq. It combines diverse kinds of information (official government documents, maps, citizen testimonies and reference materials like chronologies, bibliographic references, important articles, human rights reports, photographic and other images, audio tapes, video-taped records).
Search for Common Ground in the Middle East (SCGME) - is a multi-track program seeking to build a comprehensive process to contribute to regional peace, cooperation and security in the Middle East. Founded in 1991, SCGME has been a pioneer in efforts to promote dialogue, foster civil society, and build the capacity of individuals and organizations across the region to develop and utilize conflict resolution tools. SCGME also publishes Bulletin of Regional Cooperation in the Middle East.
The Trans-Arab Research Institute (TARI) was incorporated in Massachusetts in 1998 as a non-profit educational organization. TARI aims to provide focused research and public venues to analyze, discuss and present optional perspectives on their solution. University of California - Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) - was founded in 1983, as a multi-campus research unit (MRU) serving the entire University of California (UC) system, to study the causes of international conflict and help devise options for resolving it through international cooperation.
